When in Northport . . .

Whether you're a resident of Northport or you're here for a vacation, you'll be looking for some off-the-water activities too.

• Northport Visitor Center
  The Sailing School and the Visitor Center share a building at 204 Rose at Second, at Haserot Park just north of the marina. The Visitor Center has lots of literature telling you about activities in the area. The building is open about six months a year, from May through October, but their web site is open 24/7 to help you plan your days and nights.

It Takes a Village . . .

The Northport Youth Sailing School has received support from many individuals and organizations. Without them, we couldn't do what we do. Parents, grandparents and residents volunteered their time to organize the school as well as manning chase boats and monitoring activities from the beach. Many individuals and organizations continue to provide funding. Thanks to all of you for giving children the opportunity to learn the lifelong skill of sailing.

Easling Construction
Thanks to Easling Construction for giving us a place to build the 4 Opti kits we purchased for the 2010 season. They also provided labor to build the boats.

Inland Seas
Inland Seas' mission is "to help people of all ages experience the science and spirit of the Great Lakes through shipboard and on-shore programs." In 2010 & 2011, they helped us by building two Optimist sailboats and donating them to NYSS. Thank you, Inland Seas.

Leelanau Township Community Foundation
The Foundation helps to make all of our lives better. We thank them for providing a grant that helped to get the sailing school started and to the Foundation's Youth Advisory Council for funding 11 scholarships in 2010 & 2011 as well as providing additional funds for needed supplies.

West Marine
NYSS received a Youth Boating Grant from West Marine in 2010. The grant was in the form of $500 worth of merchandise from West Marine. West also sponsored our Friday night regattas in 2011. Thanks, West!

Northport Bay Yacht Club
The NBYC is a casual social club of sailors, power boaters and anyone else who wants to hang around the water. Check their Facebook page and the Visitor Center's Events calendar for activities including Saturday sailboat races in the bay. Thanks to the NBYC for a cash donation and for sponsoring five full scholarships in 2010 & 2011. The NBYC has also pledged to fund five scholarships in 2012 and has donated money toward a boat.

Thanks to the Village of Northport for giving us the use of a classroom building and permission to launch our boats on south beach. The Village also allows us to use the 'NYSS Boathouse' to store our Optis and Picos. In 2011, we expanded the boathouse. We'd like to thank the Village as well as those who helped with the foundation and construction - Al Flees (Alan Flees Masonry), Rob, Jacob & Caleb Brown (Rob Brown Design), Dan Scott (Dan Scott Builders), Chris & Andy Sleder, Roger Church, Gus Geil, Jim Chapman, Tom Gallery and everyone else who stopped by.

Thanks to all of the individuals and businesses (including The Northport Bay Boat Yard and Huntington Bank who so generously donated to NYSS. Your donations purchased our fleet of 12 Optis, 5 Picos and 3 inflatable boats. You also purchased life jackets, whistles and everything else we needed.
